16 oz / 20 oz Copper Perimeter Drip Edge Flashing

Perimeter drip edge flashings made of roofing grade 16 oz / 20 oz copper are a finial that should be found on every flat roof on luxorious estate. With their smooth exterior surface, perimeter edge flashings improve the aesthetics of the walls, with their protruding top edge they perform a role similar to gravel stop flashing, and their gentle offset from the building mass directs water away from areas that may be prone to flooding during rain.

Unlike T-style drip edges, perimeter edge flashings do not work well on roofs covered with asphalt shingles, cedar shakes or slate tiles. It is a solution designed for installation on EPDM, PVC and TPO roofs.

We believe that the essential function of any drip edge is to effectively direct water away from the roof and protect the fascia from soaking. For this reason, our products do this as well as possible. We achieved this with a perfectly designed shape and a smooth surface that facilitates the flow of water.

The perimeter drip edge flashings we manufacture also protect the edges of the roof from wind and mechanical damage. A properly installed drip edge should extend a little beyond the outline of the roof panels, so there is a good chance that when hit by a branch, only the flashing, which is easy to replace or repair, will be damaged.

Drip edge is also the perfect finish for the roof you are building. The 0.022” or even 0.027″ thick copper provides even 200 years of completely trouble-free service and protects both sheathing and underlayment well. Perforation of copper roof is probably impossible, as it’s not a corroding metal.

How to Use Perimeter Drip Edge Flashings?

First and foremost, we recommend that perimeter edge flashings be installed on cleats solidly attached to structural elements, not to the roof deck or insulation layer.It’s also worth remembering to use a suitably durable adhesive, preferably one that is certified for outdoor use.

Engineers at North Shore Sheet Metals also suggest that cleats be bolted to the wall as solidly as possible – due to their large surface area, the aerodynamic drag generated by perimeter edge flashings is very high, which, in strong winds, can simply pull them from their mounts.

Copper, unlike steel and aluminum, is completely resistant to corrosion – admittedly, it gets covered with a blue-green oxidation layer, but this does not affect its strength. This makes copper mechanical lock roofing panels incredibly even durable, and under optimal conditions, their service life can last up to 200 years. No other material, not even natural slate or premium-grade terracotta tiles, offers such exalted performance.
