What Are Termination Bar Flashings?

termination bar flashing with lipsTermination bar flashings made of Kynar 500 coated galvalume are absolutely necessary for everyone installing EPDM, TPO or any other flat roofing mamebranes. Installed along the membrane edges, termination bars protect the roof effectively from any kind of water penetration. If only termination strip is sealed properly with a polyureatne sealant, the entire system is simple, but also durable. Since our compression bar flashings have holes placed every each 6″, the pressure applied to membrane is distributed evenly. This makes the whole roof more integrated, which pays with less problems in the future.

Kynar Steel Termination Bar With Lip

We offer termination bar flashings with a drip lips as well as without them. Termination strips with a kick are a standard option, but if only there’s a need, you can opt for flat version.

The presence of this small lip is for a reason – its role is to protect the caulking applied under the roof membrane. When installed properly, termination strip with kick directs the water far away from the seal, protecting it.

The presence of lip makes termination strip even more efficient also when the wall surface is uneven. This additional metal strip cover any possible lacks of airtightness, which is absolutely crucial when it comes to preparing the roof to last for many years to come.

How to Use The Termination Bar Flashing?

Termination bar flashing is installed at all points where the roofing membrane terminates against a vertical surface, such as walls, parapets, chimneys, or curbs. First, extend the membrane to the required height and ensure it lies flat and tension-free. Position the termination bar over the membrane and mechanically fasten it into the substrate using corrosion-resistant fasteners, typically spaced every 6 inches. Once the bar is securely installed, apply a continuous bead of polyurethane or approved hybrid sealant along the top edge of the termination bar. When using a termination bar with a drip lip, the sealant is protected from direct water exposure, improving long-term performance. Proper installation ensures the membrane is securely compressed, water intrusion is prevented, and the roofing system remains durable and serviceable over time.
